Bora's house is finally finished! This is my last and final house so my town is now "complete" in my eyes! I can now rest :'-) Bora's character is meant to be a spirit that is summoned back into the world to protect (and haunt?) the wilted peach forest from intruders. His house is part of the "horror" aspect of the town and gives hints about Borei's background and the villager's obsession with perfect peaches!
Content warning: graphic imagery plus story spoilers from my dream town.
Exterior
Bora's house is located in the south part of the haunted forest. There's lots of black flowers, dead trees, and dandelion puffs surrounding it. Normally I play this town without the puffs but I replaced some flowers there for puffs in the dream town to give it a more dead-looking effect. The exteriors I used for this house are the patched door, barbed wire fence, shabby mail box, brick pavement, stone roof, and stone exterior.
There's a windy dirt path that leads to the dilapidated house. It was a total pain to make because I kept accidentally running over flowers when I was trying to wear it down :-P
Another glimpse of the haunted forest around Bora's house.
Here's what it looks like in the late afternoon.
Further down is the tree that Bora was summoned to protect! Amongst all the dead wilted peach trees is the very last perfect peach tree! This tree dies immediately when shaken, so it truly is the last tree. The stone tablet is to give it a more mysterious vibe, but it could also be Bora's tombstone.
Upon entering the house there is a line of "storefronts" blocking the initial view. I actually wanted to make this area look a bit more unkempt but I ran out of space for items because of what lies behind the door.
This room is supposed to represent the villager's trophies from their human victims! Woohoo. At first it might look like the villagers themselves are dead because of the pictures displayed, but they are obviously very much alive when you see them around town. The pictures upstairs are a different story though. In my dream town, the "greetings" that the human residents say also hint that they the items are from human victims instead of the clothing items of villagers (plus animals don't wear shoes). Bora is also the only character in the town that is represented without a beak, adding to the idea that visitors who are not in disguises are in danger.
Here's another view of the room. You have to rotate the room to actually see closely what are on the bloody pillows. They are mainly socks, shoes, and lost items. I chose the "zen desk" as a table for the pictures because it kind of looks like a wooden coffin. Blanche and Wade don't have space for a pillow on the floor so they have a bloody shirt hanging behind them.
Through the back room is the offering room. On another bloody pillow is the axe/weapon that villagers supposedly used to take out their victims. With my town's idea in mind, it was hard to make the rooms so that they distinguish from the "evil villager" rooms and Bora's character who is not actually evil. Bora's "greeting" in the dream says "I will protect the last tree" which kinda hints that he's not actually a bad spirit while the other villagers and Nary are the greedy ones. This offering room (and all the rooms with villager pictures + dead bodies) don't actually have any perfect peaches in sight. The only basket seen is in Bora's room.
The upstairs room is similar to the main room, but this time it's a picture room dedicated to my past villagers who lived in town. These villagers likely "moved out" because they met their deaths like the visitors! Although it's not super obvious, I don't mind visitors interpreting it however they want. There are skeletons and the cow bone head scattered around as well with coffins in the back. I made it spacious enough that you can walk around each villager's photo and see their saying and info.
Here's a close up. The mushrooms that are scattered around some of the rooms actually represent the presence of Bora, who is supposed to be a kind spirit (although he could he interpreted as an evil spirit because of the way his house looks, haha). Mushrooms are a huge theme in his room, seen below.
The room downstairs is Bora's room where he was reborn as a spirit, I guess!?! The room is supposed to have a much more magical and calming feeling compared to the obvious blood stained mess upstairs. Although it could still give an anxious feeling to others because how dark and cramped it is. Either way, it's meant to be the room where Bora was brought back into the world.
Here's Bora in his room! I have a few possible interpretations for the giant egg in the room, and this house as a whole. As mentioned before, Bora is most likely to be interpreted as a past resident who was killed by the villagers as a sacrifice to something... possibly the great peach god? :'-D It's a bit obscure when you visit the town whether the villagers are giving offerings to Bora himself or some kind of other deity (of if they just do it for fun, haha). The egg could represent something mysterious such as a giant bird that once lived in town, or just something to tie in with the general bird theme.
I put a tombstone behind the egg to tie in to Bora the spirit (if the halo wasn't obvious enough). Bora means "ancient" in Khmer, alluding to the fact that he's a resident from an older generation of people who lived in that town. It sounds quite similar to Borei, although Borei just refers to an "enclosed" or "gated community" in Khmer. Bora's birthday is also on the anniversary of the town, although this information is not seen if you visit my dream town. When making this town I had an idea that Bora was an ancestor of the current residents who came back to protect the last tree. But I really don't care how people interpret the town as no one is really going to care about my Borei canons when visiting :'-D I thought it was just fun for myself to think about and document here later as an official explanation.
This image quality may not show it very well, but behind the tombstone there's a basket of perfect peaches. This is not accessible by visitors and it's hidden from view behind the egg and tombstone as if it is being protected. Almost every single perfect peach basket is blocked off by something, either behind an object or inside a fancy display case. The only exception is in Nary's basement where a basket of perfect peaches was left when she was snacking on it :'-D
So that's basically the last house finished! Technically the dream is already uploaded if you search Borei or Malis, but I do plan on making a post of my final version with a walk through and some story behind it! I'm just happy all the houses are finally done! If I remember correctly, it took me only 2-3 months to finish the landscaping of this town but close to a year to actually get off my butt to finish the houses. I probably steamrolled through that all in this past month!
