Tansan Hotel (Part 1)

The 3.0 update has been out for a few weeks now, and I have to say it did spark a renewed interest in returning to my game just to casually design and make some small edits here and there on my island. I really love seeing the tourists around and making the island feel more alive. I look forward to seeing who is visiting every day. I’ve already run into many old villagers from past games and had fun designing their VIP rooms 😎

This post will cover Part 1 of my completed rooms, Rooms 1-4. I will post Rooms 5-8 a bit later because I'm still tweaking and revisiting some. Maybe I'll dedicate another post to my favorite VIP rooms after I've compiled a few, but I generally forget to take pictures of those.

For the most part, I always try to complete a room with the bare necessities, meaning giving each room a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. But because this is a hotel, I surpressed my urge to in some cases, and left out the kitchen so they can order some room service instead. I guess having a full kitchen would be more like an airbnb than a hotel? I also noticed that I make the bathroom quite small and samesy, but I rather they have a small bathroom than nothing at all!

The rooms covered here will be: 1. Seaside Room 2. Skyscraper Room, 3. Ranch Room, 4. Lodge Room.

Room 1: Seaside Room

I wanted to make the illusion of having a deck that opens out into the beach front, but I don't think I was that successful. But it's okay, I rarely need the whole 10x10 area to design so I don't mind shaving off a few squares for a nonfunctional area!

I made the bathroom connect to the deck so that you can wash off immediately without tracking sand into the room. This room comes with a complimentary surf board. I may have even put other items on the deck like a drying rack, but it's hidden by the wall.

Here's a very simple bedroom featuring a full rattan bed and a "headboard", a nice trick I saw a lot of players doing where you simply add high or low counters behind your bed. Initially I wanted to put more items of personality on the counters, but I decided to keep it clean and orderly instead. You can imagine putting something like your phone or your book up there after reading or browsing before bed.

The bathroom is separated by the wooden partion which I thought was nice because it lets some "light" in to the bedroom.

The kitchen basically takes up the whole right side of the wall, not super interesting just plain white appliances and a washing machine. The kitchen and living room space has a nice view of the beach. I started customizing the glowing stickers to do the "window" effect after the update so you'll see the same one featured a times in my hotel rooms and also in my own home. I could have tried other variations of using stickers but I didn't want to take up too many spaces for custom designs, and this window style was the easiest to draw out myself. Here's Purrl enjoying the room the day I was taking photos!

There's a little living room nook by the entrance to the foyer with a small TV. The foyer or deck part is something I had a bit of trouble with. I wanted one part to be a window and the other to be an open area, but I think it would have been more successful if there was a continuation of sand, eg. using the sandy beach floor + wooden floor rugs instead. But I didn't want to cover the whole floor with rugs so I settled on leaving it like this.

And finally here's another angle of the room from the window side. This room comes with a little orange tabby who enjoys hanging and watching the waves!

Room 2: Skyscraper Room

The next room was the Sky Scraper room and it ended up being one of the rooms I was most happy with, because it utilized several of my favourites of the new series. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed there weren't more pieces to each series in general. I had imagined more designs during the trailer for the update - especially the tubular set - such as standing lamps or low coffee tables. 😩

I went for a mid-century modern vibe for this room and I love how it turned out. I turned it into a "hobby" room, so tourists who book it can kick back and build a toy model or play puzzles, etc. Usually I would spread house plants pretty evenly throughout the room, but this time I bunched a few together under a grow light. Bea, the cutie pie, was visiting the day I took photos of this room.

Here's another view of the table set up with a model kit in progress. The vintage shelving unit has more games for guests to entertain themselves with. Behind on the covered counter is a coffee station, an idea I reuse quite frequently in the rooms because the espresso machine in particular is such a nicely designed item... also I thought hotel guests would appreciate a good cup of coffee in the morning.

Of course, every room needs a bathroom, and the one in this one is simple but one of my favourites. I usually fit the bathroom into a 3x2 carpet space which allows for a small sink, a toilet, and a tub with a shower set. For this one in particular I customized the fancy frame with a custom design of a mirror reflecting the sink. Almost every design on my island is made by myself but this mirror was way too good I had to download it. I found the set on Pinterest here, which also includes the other color ways for the crafted Plain sink item.

This room also has a simple and modern kitchen. I love how perfect the open frame kitchen looks with some of the tubular items customized to the stainless steel colorway.

Next to the kitchen is the living room space with a TV set up and an electic mix of furniture styles. I love the little pop of colors against the dark wood and green. I often find myself always going back to darkwood when customizing any room because I feel like it's easier to mix and match different sets. For the bedroom I used the new artsy bed with green sheets. One design trick I like to use with partition walls is to use the horizontal split curtains to hang in front since we can't hang items like photo frames directly on them.

Room 3: Ranch Room

The next room is the ranch room. It is a suitable staycation for those who like to cook or bake, or work on some writing with no distractions. In fact, I imagine if I had to choose one theme for the whole hotel, it would be similar to the ranch theme. The hotel and pier is technically located in the "countryside" area of my island that has a few farm plots with a general small town feel. Guests could maybe harvest veggies themselves before heading in and cooking with them!

The kitchen is the heart of the ranch room. It's filled with little knick knacks such as handpicked ceramic cups and plates and even an old stonework kitchen with a full set of cast iron cookware. This would probably be a popular room to book during the cold winter months!

Next to the kitchen is a cozy living room space with a vintage TV set. The patchwork sofa's cover is made by Grams herself! I really love how the patchwork sofa and table can be placed next to each other to create an L-shaped seating arrangement, similar to the box sofa. I just wish the colorway options had some plain ones as well.

Unlike the first two rooms, which are more like "studio apartments", the bedroom in the ranch room has it's own partioned off space. I made the doorway quite wide unlike other rooms like bathrooms where I'd leave only 1 square to walk through. I did that headboard thing again where I put the counters behind the bed. I used a mix of the ranch and antique series for this room. Again, the darkwood color variations look good across different series which is why I always tend to go back to it, haha.

Along the partition wall side of the bedroom is a desk with a typewriter. This ranch room could be more popular with tourists who want no modern distractions but instead a quiet retreat to work on writing.

Finally, the bathroom. Out of all the sink options you can probably tell that the fancy bathroom vanity is my favorite and I use it the most. Despite the name, I think the color options fit a range of styles, not just fancy. I also generally like having a backsplash- whatever helps to cover a large surface area of a wall. I had to go into handheld mode to really show off this space because it was quite tight.

Room 4: Lodge Room

And finally, Room 4 is the Lodge Room with a ski resort in the background. I did a smaller room this time without a kitchen, instead focusing on visitors who would come specifically to hit the slopes and cozy up in front of the fire place. I wanted to add a service cart there to imply there's room service available. You can watch the skiiers while enjoying a five-star meal!

I often associate the log furniture with dreaded villager starter furniture, but I forget how nice they can look if styled properly. The log furniture in particular looks so good in that light wood and birch colorway, but here I am... back to using darkwood, haha. Again! It was because I really wanted to use the bookcase item and I prefer the darker version to the light ones.

The first guest for this room was Chevre, which I thought was fitting because she looks like a mountain goat. I made it a point to go back into the rooms I decorated and add cats wherever I could, because why not? This lodge room is very pet friendly, coming with two kitties who like to warm up by the fireplace with you!

I wanted to try something different and add an open closet type design, especially since the main purpose of this room is for people who want to go skiing. I rarely use the clothing shelf (forgot the name, but the one used for clothing stores) so I wanted to try it out here. The clothes on the shelf itself aren't really ski related... but I did add the Happy Home Paradise puffy jacket and boots on the wall there.

To fit in with the open closet style, I decided to put the sink outside of the bathroom. That way guests can check their outfits before hitting the slopes I guess. I would think people who book a ski lodge would be on the fancier side and care about their ski fits, lol. I forgot you could use a combination of the curtain partition and horizontal split curtains to fake a shower curtain of sorts, so I did that and customized it with the reindeer pattern that fits the sofa and bedsheets.

That's all for this post, but I hope to finish some of my other rooms and post them soon while I have this momentum of not forgetting this blog exists. I’m still planning on posting an updated walkthrough of my island on the blog, but I wanted to share my hotel rooms first since that’s what I was actively working on. I’ve really been enjoying seeing other peoples builds and just the general explosion of new AC content popping back up with the update.

Speaking of updates, recently I've been getting really into Stardew Multiplayer and Stardew Valley is also going to have an update soon. Maybe I'll post about my Stardew farms and gameplay, but I'll try to post about AC first lol. Until next time!
