Tansan Resort Hotel Room Design (Part 2)

This post will cover the last 4 main rooms I decided on for Tansan's Resort Hotel. For these rooms I settled for the theme of Luxurious, Japanese-Retro, Modern, and Exquisite. Part of me wanted to try some different styles I don't normally do so it doesn't look too similar between rooms, such as the Diner room or Dreamy room, but I decided to just leave those ones to VIPs when they come to visit.

When building rooms you might find yourself designing with the animated wallpaper in mind, moreso than a specific furniture series. These wallpapers often feature beautiful scenery with subtle animations, like moving clouds, or very dynamic ones like rain storms. When making a fairly large room I always use them on one wall and then create the illusion of a window with partition walls and pillars.

The animated wallpapers helps set the tone for the rest of the room's design. I've seen some people go really crazy with it, playing around with optical illusions to create depth and interest, like foyer doors opening out to a scenery, etc. Mine are always on the simpler side where the walls are either "windowless" or use a very simple custom design windows with glow in the dark stickers. Even using it in the simplest way can add an easy "wow" factor to the rooms.

Room 5: Luxurious Room

I would say that one of my favorite room builds using this trick was in my fifth room, the Luxurious Room (and one of my favorite designs to date!). I was completely obsessed with the way it turned out because the Meadow vista wall just looks so scenic and serene. I knew I wanted to make a hotel room based off this wallpaper with the feeling of an elegant holiday home. I stuck with the dark color schemes I normally like, and a mix of the elegant and antique set. I love how well the bright backdrop is framed right in the middle as you walk in.

I guess this room was just jam packed with items because it was the first room ever that did not allow me to place more items than what you see here. I got a messaging saying it was already "too full"! Here's a wider angle of the whole room - yeah it's quite a lot!

I wanted to put the marble kitchen island in the center part of the room so that anyone cooking can enjoy the view. Another thing I noticed is I rarely add a proper dining space in my builds, but I figured tourists could eat on the kitchen island or in the living room space. I live in an apartment and we just cook/prepare/eat on the kitchen island so that's why I generally don't think to add one.

The rest of the kitchen is tucked away in the corner and is not all that interesting, but the practical designer in me needed to complete the kitchen with at least a fridge! This kitchen also comes with a wood burning stove, espresso maker and toaster. I love the green version of the marble series, which comes with gold accents. Definitely too lavish to use in my own home but it works great here.

Right in front of the kitchen island is the living area. Just a simple seating arrangement with a chess board in the middle. I didn't want to add a TV in this build because I would think a place as nice as this would inspire you to get off your screens at the very least.

I also added my favorite "combo" using the lily record player and lily vase in the yellow colorway. It looked so beautiful paired with the greens and dark wood. I also love the fact that you can place cushions on top of low counters so it looks like extra seating!

The left of the room has the bathroom. This is probably the biggest bathroom build I've done for the hotel. There's an area for the sink and a closet outside the bathroom. Through the doorway is the bathtub and toilet. Initially I was going to use the clawfoot tub as I thought it suited the style more, but I wanted to match the bathtub recolored to marble to the sink.

I really love how you can see glimpses of the other rooms from the center. It's a smaller space to work with, but I actually think "less is more" works better for some of the classier looking furniture sets.

Another detail I love about this room in particular is the fancy frame's castle painting. I know we're just in a themed hotel room, but I love how this room looks like it could be a room from that castle painting. The backdrop even looks a bit similar!

On the otherside of the room on the right is the bedroom. The bedroom has it's own window as well and a desk that faces the view. This part of the room doesn't have too many decor items but at this point I wasn't able to add more items, haha.

The featured guest in this room is Shari, who was my Uchi in my first ever New Leaf town, Kenka. The thing about tourists is that running into some of my favorites from past games really make me wish I could invite them to live here!

I was going to make Shari a VIP but I had just remodeled this room, so I popped her in here. It was also the nicest room I had at the time. I will definitely make her a VIP next time if she returns!

Room 6: Japanese-Retro Room

I really enjoyed making the Japanese-Retro room because I just love the summer retro items! This room design in particular reminded me a bit of the room I made for my mayor Jules on Tinytree (ACNL).

I wanted it to have the feeling of a homey room in the countryside, reminiscent of visiting your grandparents, staying indoors to avoid the sweltering heat, and kicking back on your gameboy or passing the days reading comics.

For this one I did not add a bathroom, but because I used the screen door wallpaper (which is essentially just doors everywhere) I figured there would be a bathroom behind at least one. I did however, manage to add a kitchen and table space.

This room is on the smaller side and recently I find myself designing smaller rooms because I enjoy seeing everything without a partition wall blocking off an area. Here's Ricky enjoying his stay in the Japanese-Retro room!

Room 7: Modern Room

I knew the "Modern room" and "Sky scraper room" could have a lot of furniture overlaps, so I decided to lean into more funky lighting options for this one as well as having an underwater theme! I definitely wanted to try this out because I imagine there could be a room underwater since we're on the pier. This room, similar to the Japanese-Retro room, is on the smaller side. However, I was able to fit both a bathroom and kitchen making it like cozy studio apartment-style room.

I shut the blinds even during the day so that the blue lighting was more apparent, but it's definitely a different vibe visiting it during the day and during the night, as seen above.

Like many other rooms, I used the receptionist desk as a work desk that fits snug right up against the window and two pillars. I will typically use the receptionist desk or counters to create that window illusion, but I should experiment with custom sidings using glow in the dark stickers and other furnitures too. Sometimes the height of the counters can block a lot of interesting visuals at the bottom of a wallpaper. For this one, I unfortunately blocked some coral reef, but I thought the fish swimming about was good enough.

The bedroom is in the very corner. Nothing too interesting about it, in fact I used the same artful bed again like I did in the Skyscraper room. I would have used the ironwood bed but I prefer a full sized bed to singles. Somehow I find it hard to design around a single bed.

I really love how the kitchen turned out. I made it fully stainless steel and even included a washing machine. It's quite a tight squeeze in there, but it's a full kitchen regardless.

It’s a shame the bathroom is so small you can barely squeeze into it, but the window opening out to the underwater scene while you take a bath looks so nice (at least from the corner where you can peek in, lol). Above is the view of the kitchen and bathroom space. There's a toilet there too you just can't see it.

Here's the living room space - all black furniture and a box chair seating. I try not to repeat furniture too often throughout builds but I definitely fall back on using the box seating and vintage sofa in the end!

Room 8: Exquiste Room

Finally! The very last room is the Exquiste room! I knew I wanted to make a room using the Imperial series because it's the set most closely resembling the "exotic" series from New Leaf. I used that series a lot because it reminded me of furniture I have at home. I really wish they had kept those initial designs  (although changing the name was probably a good move) but they redesigned them to look a lot more expensive or grand. Eg. the bed now having a full frame or the low table being curved and more elaborate. They still look nice but I really miss my exotic lamp, chest, and wardrobe from New Leaf! 😓

This room would be popular with tourists who want a serene and calming experience sampling different types of tea. I wanted to make it feel like one of those hertiage house stays where the furniture pieces and decor are personal antiques with a lot of history. In that sense I wanted to add more antiques to the room, but I decided not to clutter it too much and instead use some furniture sets I normally wouldn't, such as the bamboo DIYs.

One special wallpaper I knew I needed to use for this room because it matched the color palette so well, was the new Korok forest wall. Even though it's just a small sliver on each side, I think it fits the tone of the room very well. The exquisite wall is so pretty on its own that I never feel the need to cover it with any wall hangings.

Other than the main area to drink tea, I also added a mini indoor garden with some seating by the bed. I was surprised I could fit a whole tree there plus the table setting. Maybe this spot is where breakfast is delivered so you an roll out of bed and be served right away. Or it could be a comfy spot to read a book before jumping into those silk sheets. (TBH I think the main reason I don't like the redesign is that the bedding doesn't look comfortable despite being silk).

The bathroom is similar to the many I've posted so far, but I made it completely inaccessible by using the curtain partition. I do wish that some items are actual curtains that we can open and close but also walk through. I feel like it's a missed opportunity by not coming up with different types of partitions. We're now stuck with regular walls or JAIL BARS! I feel bad using the jail bars honestly but sometimes I need to. I miss the glass partition wall from ACNL too 😭.

Another oldie from ACNL stayed at this room! Soleil, one of my snooties from Kenka enjoyed some nature noises and tea. Btw I'm aware of how silly my tourists look in their Salmon Run outfits but I just love seeing random villagers sport it, especially since my own villagers haven't really picked up on the trend!

Anyways, that's all my hotel rooms done! Overall I enjoyed this little addition in the update. Moreso than the designing aspect, I'm really enjoying just seeing random tourists in their cute little Salmon Run gear, walking around and exploring the town. I was happy to see that they interact with items too, like Elise using the busking station set up by the museum. I waited months for my villagers to sing there and they never do!

I was also a bit apprehensive at first about the fact that VIP rooms just disappear, but honestly I've started to enjoy building a new one each day with no real commitments or permenancy. If I end up really liking a design I can just switch it out for one of the ones I currently have.

It also is convenient that if you have the itch to do a random design build, you can just run to your pier instead of flying out to the Happy Home Paradise island (I don't remember what I named mine, if it does have a name) or going to Photopia. I don't use the tickets much anymore but I've definitely added "finding the VIP and design their room" to my daily tasks.

One thing though, is I heard that online players cannot go into your rooms, and dreamers visiting your DA cannot view them either. I feel like it would be fun to see other peoples rooms as part of the visit, or at least through a creator code. It's weird they are only for us to enjoy. Well, at least I've posted them here.

I will most likely make a post about some of my favorite VIP rooms, since there's a few villagers from past games that I ran into and made rooms for, or others that I'm proud of. But this update also reminded me that I need to steadily work on as well as update some of my HHP holiday homes too. Suddenly there's a lot to do again on AC! That's always good I guess! 😛

If you want to see my first few rooms of the hotel, I posted them here. I also posted a few rooms I made for Quillson, an old Tansan villager that visited twice.
